AUGUST 2024
At Planted it's our purpose to reconnect people with nature through high-quality design and we're delighted to showcase below some of the very best businesses in this field.
With longer days, warmer temperatures and more sunshine it's natural for those of resident in the UK to get out into nature during the summer before hunkering down for the colder, darker winters.
But just because we might not go outside as much as the nights draw in, that doesn't mean we have to disconnect from the natural world. Far from it.
Biophilic design is a brilliant way to bring nature into your home or office space, and we'll be talking about some of the amazing natural, sustainable products and designs on the market at our next Planted talk on 18 September at Roca London Gallery, as part of our Bio-Spaces exhibition curated by Planted and Oliver Heath Design during London Design Festival. Read more below.
Back to nature: bringing the outside in
We know that people who feel connected to nature are happier, healthier and ultimately more productive, but we don’t have to go outside to experience the myriad benefits that connection can bring.
More and more interior designers, architects, planners and developers, as well those at the top of industry, are recognising the value in creating spaces where nature can thrive indoors, be it at home or in the workplace.
And with a move towards more regenerative, natural materials creating more circular processes, our ‘Meet the Makers’ night, as part of the Bio-Spaces exhibition, will highlight some of the brands leading this conversation.
In a fast-paced series of presentations, brands whose products and materials help bring nature indoors and designers who create those natural spaces, will each explain in six minutes how they do it and why.

Butterfly Air
Healthy air makes sense for people and planet
Nature has a way of telling us if the air is not clean, even if we cannot see it. An absence of insect life in summer, notably butterflies, which are especially sensitive pollutants, is a sure sign something is wrong.

Nature has a way of telling us if the air is not clean, even if we cannot see it. An absence of insect life in summer, notably butterflies, which are especially sensitive pollutants, is a sure sign something is wrong.
A revolutionary product appropriately called Butterfly Air is harnessing technology to sound the alarm on poor air quality in the workspace, making both commercial and ethical sense for employers.

New design alleviates Seasonal Affective Disorder
Did you know five per cent of the population of Northern Europe suffer from the debilitating mental and physical health impact of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)?
And in a bid to help, Planted is working alongside Celine Darnaud, the French owner of Moodlight Chairs, to promote her beautifully designed chair with built-in bright light therapy, which is proven to reduce the effects of SAD.
Created by the brilliant British designer Paul Crofts, and with a nod to Scandinavia in its paired back simplicity, the Moodlight Chair fits perfectly with Planted’s mission of showcasing beautiful design which benefits people and planet. Read our interview with Celine here:

Planted Cabin - River Cottage
Despite a slightly underwhelming summer on the weather front, we’ve been delighted by the response we’ve had to our cabin in its first season at River Cottage HQ, Axminster.
Bookings have been buoyant and we’ve been able to welcome old friends and new to stay in our wonderful little haven in the heart of the Devon countryside where the sensitively designed cabin is located a stone’s throw from River Cottage’s world-renowned Kitchen Garden.
“We had the most utterly peaceful visit to the Planted Cabin,” said Helen Mockridge, who stayed in the cabin with her husband Tim in early June.
“What a stunning location and the cabin itself was such a joy to be in. The garden was epic - just so abundant. We spotted a barn owl hunting out the window as the sun went down! Loved every minute. Thank you.”
